How to Create Meaningful Professional Relationships
Without meaningful professional relationships, work can feel empty.
I’m a huge fan of remote work and solopreneurship, but boy do they make it easy to stay in your bubble!
Here’s how you can start building authentic professional relationships:
1. Get out of an instant gratification mindset.
If you’re looking for a new job or hoping to add more clients to your roster, it’s easy to see networking as a means to an end.
Connect with peers or people in different industries who may have wisdom you didn’t know you needed.
2. Get clear on what you value in relationships.
Professional relationships aren’t exactly like friendships, but they should still match your values.
Do you gravitate toward people who…
Wear their emotions on their sleeve?
Have big goals?
Put people first?
Once you know your preferences, look for the kinds of people you want to connect with.
3. Get away from your desk and get with people IRL.

One of the best things I did for my business in 2022 was set up a booth at a local coffee shops. I met tons of new people and talked to them about their goals and dreams. There’s just something about connecting with people in person you just can't beat!
Could you spend a day a week working from a coffee shop? Join a local group of professionals in your industry?
Remember: Jobs are fleeting. Relationships are lifelong. When you prioritize people, your work will get a whole lot more interesting and joyful.
And who knows—you may get a new job or a new client from one of your new connections!
