So your job is starting to feel…blah. You’re making the same amount of money, doing the same tasks, and working on the same team. Maybe it’s fine, but it’s not great. And you’re worthy of a career that feels great!
If you’re ready to make yourself proud, learn how to get promoted or maybe even land a new job, you’re in the right place.
If there’s anything I’ve seen as a career coach, it’s this: Growth comes from sustainable, step-by-step action. Here are 6 quick and easy ways to help you kickstart your career.
1. Catalogue your wins

In your current position, what have you achieved? Take time to list all the events you’ve planned, customers you’ve retained, social media followers you’ve grown—whatever metrics make sense for your position.
Whether asking your boss for a raise or applying for a new role that’s a level up, the proof is in your numbers! (This is how my client Colin got a huge promotion!)
2. Refresh your resume and LinkedIn profile
When was the last time you gave your digital self a glow-up? Your resume and LinkedIn are basically your career dating profile—so how can you make yourself swipe-right worthy? Add some sparkle by:
Highlighting your biggest wins like the rockstar you are.
Using numbers to show off your impact (because numbers don’t lie!).
Updating your skills to reflect your current magic-making powers.
Hiring a writer to teach you the ins and outs of resume and LinkedIn optimization.
A little polish goes a long way.
3. Block work time on your calendar

Pro tip: If it’s not scheduled, it’s not happening. Block out time for career-boosting activities like upskilling, networking, or applying to dream jobs.
Treat these blocks like the VIP event of your week—non-negotiable and all about YOU. (Bonus points if you make them fun with a good playlist or your favorite snack.)
4. Reconnect with mentors and colleagues
Networking doesn’t have to feel like an awkward first date. Reach out to five people who inspire you, cheer you on, or just make you laugh. Slide into their inbox with a friendly invite for coffee (or a Zoom catch-up). Who knows, one conversation could lead to your next big break.
5. Set three development goals
Grab a sticky note or a fancy notebook—your choice—and write down three goals. Want to lead a project? Learn a new skill? Get a seat at the decision-making table? Name it, claim it, and start mapping the path to get there. Trust me, writing it down is half the magic.
6. Get quality help
Sometimes, you just need someone to cheer you on, challenge you, and help you stay accountable. That’s where a career coach (hi, that’s me!) comes in. It's my job to remind you that you don’t need to reinvent yourself to build a career you love. You just need to take small, intentional steps that make a big impact over time.
